Xacobeo 2027: confirmed news and how to prepare your Camino
Official Holy Year announcements, what the Xunta has announced and what remains unconfirmed. Prepare for 2027 using verified information.

Xacobeo 2027 is a good opportunity to walk the Camino de Santiago, but you do not have to wait for a concert or walk with company to experience it. What matters is distinguishing official announcements from pending information and the preparations you can already make.
This guide brings together information checked on 27 September 2026. It is not a final programme: activities and their conditions can change. We identify announcements from the Xunta and information from the Cathedral separately.
What Xacobeo 2027 is and why it is a Holy Year
2027 will be a Compostela Holy Year: 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday. The Cathedral explains the religious meaning of the celebration in its information about pilgrimage and the Holy Year.
There are two aspects to distinguish. The Holy Year is a celebration of the Church of Santiago. The name Xacobeo is also used for cultural, tourism and promotional initiatives organised by the Xunta and other organisations. An institutional presentation does not amount to a confirmed calendar of concerts or visits.
The practical consequence for your trip is simple: choose your route and dates according to your available days, preparation and preferences. You do not need to build the entire journey around 25 July or copy someone else's itinerary.
The official developments we have checked
24 September: presentation of the Holy Year
The Archdiocese presented the 2027 Holy Year at San Martín Pinario. It announced its motto, “When they saw the star, they were filled with immense joy”, together with materials including the poster, hymn and pastoral letter. This is an announcement from the Church of Santiago, rather than a Xunta tourism programme. See the presentation published by the Cathedral.
What does this change for your preparations? There is now an official reference for understanding the focus of the Holy Year. This announcement alone does not confirm celebration times, access arrangements or a full event programme for the week of your trip.
14 September: promoting Galicia in Madrid
The Xunta announced an exhibition about Galicia at the Casa de Galicia in Madrid, with the Camino among the elements promoting the destination ahead of 2027. The announcement gives 25 October 2026 as the closing date. This is a 2026 activity, not an exhibition announced for summer 2027. .
