Calculate the budget from Sarria in 5, 6 or 7 days: accommodation, food, transportation and extra expenses, with clear examples to organize yourself.

Calculate the budget from Sarria in 5, 6 or 7 days: accommodation, food, transportation and extra expenses, with clear examples to organize yourself.

As an example of planning, doing the Camino de Santiago from Sarria in five days can cost €255 per person during the journey if you calculate a bed of €20 per night, €30 per day for food and €5 per day for small expenses. With those same assumptions, six days would be €310 and seven days would be €365.
These amounts do not include arriving in Sarria, returning from Santiago or the nights before starting and after finishing. They are not a travel offer either: they are accounts that you can adapt to your dates and accommodations.
The budget changes mainly by where you sleep, how you eat and how many days you dedicate to the Camino. Here you have three examples, the items that are usually left out and a simple way to calculate your trip on your own.
To compare without mixing expenses, this table counts days walking and nights between stages. Five days of march are four nights between the departure from Sarria and the arrival in Santiago; six days are five nights, and seven days are six nights.
The previous night in Sarria and the night of arrival in Santiago are added separately if you need them. Food expenses for those additional days also go outside.

| days walking | Nights between stages | Adjusted, with bed €10 | Intermediate, with bed €20 | €60 room for one person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 days | 4 nights | 165 € | 255 € | 465 € |
| 6 days | 5 nights | 200 € | 310 € | 570 € |
| 7 days | 6 nights | 235 € | 365 € | 675 € |
These are Iacoboom calculation scenarios, not closed prices or measured averages. The adjusted scenario means getting a €10 bed each night, something that cannot be guaranteed. The amounts of €20 and €60 are amounts chosen to do the math: replace each one with the price of the accommodation you find for your dates.
The three scenarios include these games:

| Departure | Tight | Intermediate | Room for one person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation, per night between stages | 10 € | 20 € | 60 € |
| Food, per day walking | 20 € | 30 € | 35 € |
| Small expenses, per day walking | 5 € | 5 € | 10 € |
For example, the five-day interim calculation is 4 × €20 + 5 × €30 + 5 × €5 = €255. The small expenses item is used for extra coffees, some laundry or other purchases; It does not include backpack transportation or sufficient funds for any unforeseen event.
If you have not yet decided how long to walk, compare our proposals from Sarria to Santiago in 5, 6 or 7 days. Adding a day changes the numbers, but it can also give you a distribution of stages that better suits you.
The official website of the public hostel network of Galicia publishes a rate of €10 per person per day. It is the proven reference that we use for accommodation of the adjusted scenario.
Places are assigned upon arrival, with priorities established by the network, and reservations are not accepted. That's why it's a good idea to have an alternative and enough money for a more expensive bed if the hostel is full. Also check that there is public accommodation at the points where you want to finish each stage.
Each establishment sets its rates and conditions. In our intermediate example we use a €20 bed to show how it influences the budget; It doesn't mean that all private hostels cost that amount.
Before booking, look at what the price includes: bed linen, towels, breakfast, laundry or shared bathroom can change the final expense. Check the cancellation policies if you want to maintain some flexibility in the stages.
For a room, look to see if the amount is per room or per person. A €60 room used by a single person adds €60 to your budget; If it costs the same for two occupants and they both share it, it would be €30 per person.
That's an arithmetic example, not a market rate. Check the allowed occupancy, final price and supplements before dividing the cost. The night in Santiago must also be budgeted with its own rate.
It is not enough to tell the pilgrim's menu. During the day you may also need breakfast, lunch for the stage, dinner and some stops.
As a specific reference, the menu at Restaurante Santiago in Sarria announces a menu of the day for €15, with two courses, dessert or coffee and a drink. It is an example of an establishment, not the price of all the restaurants on the Camino.
The adjusted scenario in this guide reserves €20 per day for food and requires controlling spending, for example by combining supermarket shopping and simple meals. If you eat two restaurant meals a day, that amount may fall short.
To understand the intermediate scenario, you can divide the €30 of food into a €5 breakfast, a €15 lunch and a €10 simple dinner. These are planning amounts, not a letter or a nutritional proposal. Adjust the account to what you need and the open places in your stage.
If you plan to cook, check what facilities and utensils your accommodation offers. Having an advertised kitchen does not guarantee that you can prepare any meal.
Transportation depends on your city of origin, dates and advance notice. Write down the final price for the round trip, including any transfers you need, luggage and any transfers between the station, airport and accommodation.
Check the available routes on the operators' websites, such as Renfe and Monbus. Don't use a fixed transportation figure for everyone: it can be a significant part of the budget.
If you arrive in Sarria the day before, add that bed. If you sleep in Santiago when you finish, add another one. You will also have meals outside of the march days. A five-stage tour can take more than five days of travel.
It is an optional service and is not included in our tables. If you want it, check the amount for your route and dates in the Correos Paq Mochila service or another operator and add it as an independent item.
Check that the chosen accommodations allow pickup and delivery. Correos indicates that there must be a reservation or permission from the accommodation to leave the luggage; Don't assume that any shelter can take you.
The backpack, shoes or clothing you buy before traveling are part of your total expense, even if they are not paid for during the trip. Check what you have first and consult our list to prepare your Camino backpack.
Also reserve a separate amount for an additional night, a change of accommodation or an unexpected trip. You can start by calculating 10–15% on the items already planned, as a planning criterion, and increase it if your trip has little flexibility. This percentage does not guarantee to cover all changes.
Imagine that you walk for five days, sleep the night before in Sarria and spend the last night in Santiago. To show the calculation we use €20 beds in Sarria and between stages, and a €30 night in Santiago. They are assumptions that you must replace with your real reserves.

| Concept | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Four nights between stages | 4 × €20 | 80 € |
| Food for five days walking | 5 × €30 | 150 € |
| Small expenses during the march | 5 × €5 | 25 € |
| Previous night in Sarria | 1 × €20 | 20 € |
| Night of arrival in Santiago | 1 × €30 | 30 € |
| Additional food on arrival and return | Example game | 30 € |
| Subtotal without transport | Sum of previous items | 335 € |
| Separate margin for changes | Example game | 50 € |
| Budget before adding round trip | 335 € + 50 € | 385 € |
In this example, the trip is calculated as €385 plus round-trip transportation. If you hire a backpack transfer or buy equipment, you must also add it. The meal on the day you walk to Santiago is already within five days; avoid counting it twice.
Start with the big games. Comparing accommodation and tickets tends to clarify the budget more than counting each coffee. Then check the extras you do want to use.
Traveling with someone may allow you to share some expenses, but a hostel bed is usually charged per person. Finding companions does not imply an automatic discount nor does it require everyone to spend the same amount.
Our intermediate example adds €255 per person for four nights between stages, food and small expenses for five days walking. You must add transportation, nights before and after the tour, additional meals and room for changes. The complete example in this guide reserves €385 before transportation, with specific accommodation assumptions.
With the same intermediate assumptions, six nights at €20, seven days of food at €30 and seven days of small expenses at €5 add up to €365. The costs of arrival, return and nights outside the tour are added separately.
The total budget and the cash you carry are not the same. Check the payment methods for your accommodations and save cash for small payments or establishments that need it. There is no universal amount: it depends on paid reservations, access to ATMs and your expected expenses.
You do not buy a general ticket to walk the Camino on foot. The budget in this guide corresponds to accommodation, food and services that you use during the trip. If you hire an organized package, review its inclusions and conditions separately.
No. You can organize your reservations and stages on your own and share the journey with other people. If you are going out without acquaintances, our guide to doing the Camino de Santiago alone will help you prepare for that start.
Once you have chosen the route, days and budget, it is easier to talk to other pilgrims about the type of accommodation, meals and pace you want to follow.
